SUP is the new?

In Austin, SUP (Stand Up Paddling) is quite the rage. 5 years ago you may find one or two people out on SUP boards on Town lake, now you will find dozens if not many more. With Austin being such an active city, it is not hard to believe the rapid expansion of SUP in Austin. With beautiful lakes with lush green backdrops, Austin is an awesome place to learn and love stand up paddling. I was lucky enough to SUP with friend and fellow Surfrider member Bill Morris over the weekend, and we had a blast (even though I fell off the board quite a bit). If you haven't tried it yet, there are a ton of places to rent boards, like The Expedition School, Paddle Zen, and Austin Paddle Sports. Get out on the water, and Live Happily Ever Now!

Backyard Civility

When I awoke this morning to let the dog out in the backyard, I was reminded how as humans companionship and being good to each other makes our lives much more fufulling. There were two frogs at my back porch, one was stranded in my dog's water bowl, franticly trying to get out. Poor guy must have spent hours treading water trying to escape. The second frog was waiting at the edge of the bowl, waiting for his fellow frog to escape his troublesome situation. He could have left and headed back to the creek, but he stuck by his friends side. I think that too often we don't think about helping (even if it's moral support) each other, and the frogs reminded me of that this morning. I tilted the bowl, and let the frog free, and they both left at the same time, together, and I'm guessing happy. Cheers.

Texas, Please deliver me surf (Scorpion Bay Preferred)

Dear Austin TX,

I love you very much, but lets face it, there isn't much surf nearby.... I check here everyday, but there is little to be happy for in the surf department. Side note, Sunday was ISD, and I did my part:

Dear Matthew Kuhn,

Thank you for joining the Surfrider Foundation and the movement of care for our coasts. Here is a special welcome message from Surfrider Foundation’s CEO, Jim Moriarty to you:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH_aBFo8tfU

Your Surfrider Membership packet will arrive in the mail within 4-6 weeks.

On a side note, this is how I spent my Sunday with my wonderful Poppa and family pretending that his pool could deliver me some swell.

Cheers! Europe in 8 days!

Got me on my knees

I wonder how long it will take my sweet sweet Leyla to find this blog of mine? Actually is my second attempt at a blog that only I read. Also, is it weird that Leyla and I call it "The Mopac"? That is the way you would say it in California... Cheers!

ATX Snow

I'm really having problems with this blog, apparently my attention span doesn't encompass posting my thoughts and activities for the world wide web.

I would like to report that it has been snowing in the ATX recently. We received 2 inches, and it was a treat. Leyla has never seen snow, and it pretty much consumed our whole day. Reminded me of the days of Lake Tahoe, snowboarding, all you can eat Chinese food. Good times. Another thing to add to my list, Hurricane John in Baja, the Bay Area Earthquake, the Fires in Sand Diego, and Snow deep in the heart of Texas. Cheers!
